Emilio Orion prose-bit
I wrote a tiny (100 words) story for Emilio Orion. It takes place a few days after the crew of the Emilio Orion arrive on Kath station and they all hate their esef hosts. I wanted to draw something to go with it but I didn’t. THE END.

I cannot figure out how to reblog my own posts to this Tumblr, so here’s a repost of my character Aszio.
Aszio is in charge of Kath Station, and while the Emilio Orion and its crew are stranded at Kath, Aszio is their host. Technically Aszio is a nurturing male, which would give her female pronouns (as was decided by humans, who even in the distant space-faring future can’t let go of basic binary gender pronouns), but captain Chad calls Aszio “him” and refuses to do otherwise, and since esef have little/no interest in the human preoccupation with the whole sex/gender thing Aszio has just rolled with it.
Aszio’s tentacles are in a seeding-state, which is basically the esef equivalent of being a flower in bloom.

I really want him to be an engineer but he was a doodle and is still maturing in the narrative vats…

So I was traipsing around on tumblr and I ran across an alien I then had to draw.
Incidentally, why can I never go to bed early when I’m sick? Hm.
My resolution is to breathe more life into this collaboration in 2012. To start: look at this awesome esef. Rad.

Harold is a fifty three year old fusion reactor engineer from a small asteroid settlement somewhere inside Acchi space. Harold is also mostly replacement parts, something I’ll get on to in a minute. He is the main reactor technician onboard the Emilio Orion, and hence is in charge of supplying the ship and its three antimatter catalysed fusion engines with the insane quantity of power they require. He lives in a small set of quarters nestled between the three reactor cores down in the engineering decks, oddly enough in zero-gee. He calls the three reactors his daughters and gets angry when anyone but the other technicians even enter the outer containment shell. His personal appearance is due to his habit of being the last person out of a damaged ship. About ten years prior to working on the Emilio Orion he worked on a ship called The Good Statesman. The ship was caught in an ion storm and suffered severe damage, all the worse due to a general reactor containment failure. Harold was in the engine room at the time and suffered severe wounds to almost all of his body, lost his right arm and left leg, his index and little finger of his left hand and his right eye. However, his actions probably saved most of the crew. Afterwards, he chose to forgo extensive (and expensive) skin grafts and settled with the bare minimum to let him heal. This explains the good engineers odd skin tone. He wears the standard ship-suit, a modified pair of trousers, a personal gravity modulator (pilfered from a hoverboard) for when he ventures from the engineering deck and his mask (which is made from a material that only lets light through one way). He has a multifunction arm (which has several functional attachments, ranging from hands to blowtorches) but no prosthetic leg. This is down to a preference for zero gee, and the fact that you’re better off calling the captain on her smoking on ship than trying to force Harold to spend money. Harold is unsurprisingly single and displays no real regard for anything organic. He likes playing go and sitting in a space suit watching the stars go by. Since the ‘accident’ he has taken to rebuilding the destroyed second reactor by hand whilst he waits for the replacement to be delivered. It is currently sitting in one of the cargo pods, which Harold paid for in cash. God know where the money came from.

So this isn’t directly related to the Em-Or, but it’s Sera related, so I figure it’s relevant enough.
This is Sera’s hoverboarding uniform and board. On Sera’s homeplanet (called Zu, in Acchi space) hoverboarding is the main form of entertainment and it’s the one sport everyone watches/plays. Kind of like the World Cup and soccer (for everyone but America) on Earth. Sera was generally pretty kickass at hoverboarding, and was on the “Olympic”-style team for her country. That number on her jacket indicates how many medals she’s won in the past (three silver), and those symbols on her board indicate what skill class she’s in (double supreme, the highest class) and her profession (repair mechanic).
The hoverboard itself is magnet-based. It’s able to hover by repelling against metal framework and trace metals in the ground, but it also has emergency wings (protusions on the side) and lifter fans (bottom) in case of magnet failure. All the boarders have their names on the bottom of their boards (“so you can see who passed you, BITCH.”)
Sera’s wearing protective gear (microfiber jacket and leggings, elbow and kneepads) plus crash bracelets which will save her from eating dirt if she bails on her board. And her belly ring, which measures her center of gravity.
Sera stashed her board onboard the Em-Or and she sneaks off to an empty cargo hold to screw around with it and make sure she doesn’t fall out of practice in her spare time. If anyone else wanted to hoverboard it would be AWESOME.
So, yeah. There’s that.
